This seminar will address aspects of liminality in the analytic relationship through a discussion of the origins of this concept in cultural anthropology, reflection on the “Introduction” to Jung’s essay on the transference, and consideration of archetypal and symbolic images of liminality. Clinical material will be shared that will amplify our discussions. The seminar will bring further insight into the dynamics in the analytic encounter. Candidates will have opportunities for reflection that will aid development of their own analytic attitude in preparation for clinical work.
