2514: Introduction to Psychopathology and Jungian Diagnostics
Presenter name: Tim Pilgrim
Introduction to Psychopathology and Jungian Diagnostics
The introduction to psychopathology is offered to newly entering Stage I candidates to provide the basics of psychopathology from a Jungian perspective. The course will examine different diagnostic perspectives (Jungian, psychoanalytic, and psychiatric) to broaden insight into major syndromes and associated clinical issues, with an eye to seeing the unique contribution of Jungian ‘diagnostics’ to our understanding of the psyche and the manifestations of psychological material.
Our primary texts will be Dougherty and West’s The Matrix and Meaning of Character: An Archetypal and Developmental Approach (Routledge 2007) and McWilliams’ Psychoanalytic Diagnosis: Understanding Personality Structure in the Clinical Process (Guildford Press 2nd Edition 2011).
Secondary texts will be assigned at the beginning of each year depending on the seminar focus.
