Studies in Psychopathology: Psychiatric and Psychodynamic Assessment and Personality Disorders
This 3-session course provides a description and exploration of a standard psychiatric assessment, including a mental status exam. It includes an illustrative example using depression. Special attention is paid to the assessment of suicidality. Parameters for defining suitability for individual psychotherapy are discussed. Sessions will also focus on ego defences (coping styles) and a description and psychodynamic understanding of various personality disorders, including the Borderline and Narcissistic disorders. How to organize and present information in a case formulation using a bio, psycho, social model will be illustrated and explained.
